While EDI is alive and healthy, do you still have needs for translation of XML or flat file, to and from DB2/400 files on your iSeries machine?

After a discussion following a blog posted by dshirey – August 27, 2009, where the new version of TrustedLink iSeries was discussed, it occurs to me that companies using TLi may not know that it can help.

So you all know TLi can translate to and from EDI, but in version 5 XML translations was introduced, allowing XML definitions to be imported from a DTD. V6.2 introduced flat-file translation and V6.3 allows XML Schemas (.xsd) to be imported.

The supported flat file types are:

  • Delimiter separated values; i.e. Comma Separated Values (CSV).
  • Fixed-length columns with row delimiter.
  • Fixed-length row.

You use the same visual mapper to create Translation Formats in the same way as EDI translation, so no new software to learn.

Also, are you still using TLi V2, also known as Premenos EDI400? Do you know that there is still a migration path to the latest version of TLi V6.3? Well you can, so again no new software to implement.

So why reinvent the wheel, when you already have the tools available to you to implement non-EDI translation.
